Do I need to poke a hole in this double wall bowl? The lid has a thrown hollow knob that I poke a small hole in, and a rolled rim, that I don't poke a hole in. I am not sure if I need to poke a hole some where in the double walled bowl.

Yes otherwise it may crack when it dries. The air on the inside will be trapped and as the clay shrinks it will have no where to go and make its own hole to escape!

I think an even bigger issue would be during firing as the expanded air tries to make its way out through the maturing body and glaze.

I just made another one and cut it into to get a better look. I was thinking …to wait to poke, until leather hard, but after reading y'alls replies, I will find a way to poke a hole before it starts to dry.  Maybe two holes to be safe!

Thanks so much for the quick responses!

I needed them.

my double wall jewelry bowls survived the firings with no problems.  I glazed the outside thin with metallic green to get an orange tone, and added glass in the center and on the lid. I trimmed the bottom open so not to trap air, and glazed inside the trimmed area as well.  These are small and hold rings and earrings.

this is how I trimmed them.  I made the opening at the bottom and glazed inside this area as well, otherwise it would have been a solid bottom with trapped air.
