Where to Sell Your Pottery?

I'd like to start selling my pieces. Have a couple local galleries that represent me. Where else can you go? Anyone had success with their own online shopping cart and selling their own pieces through their own web sites?

Really late Christmas, or really really early......

I have been testing for weeks & weeks & should have done the tests last summer, but I am finally almost there.  Fairly acceptable results, just a few months too late!    jhp…

Catcher-less crystalline

Hi Michael,

here are the 2 tests that I fired for him.  On the brown one he had a run of glaze that he should have wiped off.  It ran & made the test pot tip over.  We fired them on just thin strips of brick.  jhp…

Laguna WC-391 B3 Brown Clay

Has anyone previously used Laguna WC-391 B-3 Brown Clay?

We bought one box to try out and the first person to use this clay made a slab construction of  about 3/8 inches thick.

This clay bloated in a Cone 6 firing, due to some part of the clay that is off-gassing.  The ware was previously bisque fired to Cone 04 and had a thin layer of clear glaze on it.…

Blown Away by the Pottery of Timothy Sullivan

Yesterday, my wife and I attended the Art in the Grove festival in Coconut Grove, FL. With 350 artists, there weren't many potters, and with one exception, I was not that impressed with what I saw. I was fortunate enough, though, to meet Timothy Sullivan, and I was simply boggled by the beauty of his pieces. He gas fires to cone 10 and makes use of multiple patterned glazes to give incredibly rich surfaces. He makes extensive use of Tenmoku glazes for blacks, browns, and red browns. He then…

Deciding to promote artists.

I use to do marketing for a small business who sold garden equipment.  I own a commercial laser color printer, a 24" poster printer, a canon xl2 camera, a canon xsi digital camera, vinyl cutters and a heat press. These tools can cut costs  for promoting artist  doing shows or exhibitions.  I do all the editing for videos.  I am looking for honest feedback on how I can approach this career change.  Thank u

What's in a price.

Getting ready for a local art show/sale, I communed with some fellow potters concerning pricing.  As expected, I received both high and low recommendations, both with reasonable and logical thought.  I opted for the lower end and received some comments at the sale about my work being under priced.  But I appreciated one comment more than others from a lady who thanked me for making my work accessible to those that could not afford the majority of items at the sale.

I enjoy making…

Wild West Kiln

I had to share this photo I found on a crystalline glaze forum. Someone using a Cress-modified Bartlett V6-CF controller to fire a 96 amp Skutt kiln, after the original controller burnt to a crisp.

http://s3.excoboard.com/crystal/64484/1057100

"the kiln draws 89Amps so the Bartlett controller will not handle that much current, but is more then sufficient to drive a…

Score!

OK, so I scored BIG today!  I was at one of my not so local suppliers & they let me go back & look on their shelves, 'cause I had been asking about lead products and I was able to snag 18 lbs. of lead bi-silicate & 15 lbs. of red lead oxide.  I know, I know!  I wear gloves & a respirator when I mix & spray and I don't make anything utilitarian.  I only use this stuff in crystalline glazes and am very careful to keep it high up & put away.  In fact, I think I will go…

Ceramic Art by Katharine Morling

Katharine Morling is a UK-based ceramics artist, and her work is simply divine. She describes it as “3 dimensional drawings in the medium of ceramics.” Inanimate objects on the surface, she gives each piece layers of emotion and a story http://universe-journal.com/. With a hint of the surreal, she creates scenes animated scenes, alluding to tales, dreams,…

Elementary

Does anybody have an inexpensive source for elements? L&L, Euclids & Duralite are all too expensive!  My regular source is on hiatus....  jhp

Elements

Well, after 380 firings, my e18t errored out and it was time to put new elements in.  I have been waiting for months for this, especially after hitting 300.  Did I say that I love hard ceramic element holders?  Not only do they give some protection from mis-haps, but they make changing elements such s breeze!  They just come right out.  I did however break a couple bolts on the ceramic terminals, so I had to order those.  Ordered a few extra so that I'll have them on hand.  Still beats…
