Ah ha that's the difference between functional and non-functional potters, I was a functional potter about 30 years ago, I made dishes for handicapped children.  But after a while it just felt like a factory job and decided to go non-functional. Tools are very important to me, I want to be able to use, abuse and wear them out getting all of the ideas rattling around in my head on to clay.  Denice

Hello Denice, I would let you hang it on a wall as art if that's what you want to do. Most people that make pottery believe that their work should be lived with and used, that's how I feel about my tools. I want them to be appreciated for their beauty but I also want them to be used for their function. I think that potters that are making work that is to edify and embolden should also have beauty in their lives. An artists tools and surroundings should enrich his or her life in a way that allows them to produce their best works. Some day I may make some tools that are just for looking at but until then I say make pots.

I could never use that rib I would have to hang it on the wall as a piece of art.   Denice
