Robin - The specific gravity of this glaze, or any glaze, will vary depending upon how much water you add to the dry ingredients. You'd probably add more water to spray, less in a bucket and even less if you want to paint it on.

The "right specific gravity" for any particular glaze will depend on your preference.

The "correct thickness" of an applied glaze also varies by the glaze recipe depending on how much of the glaze off-gasses, but more importantly how fluxed the glaze is.  A glaze that doesn't run can be applied thicker.

Does anyone know what the specific gravity is on this glaze?

It is a well behaved glaze for me. It seems to stay put very well.

Troy I tried this recipe I found on your page that you got from CM in 1985 -- Cushing's Satin Matt

It ran like crazy -- off the cookie and onto the kiln shelf. I've used Val Cushing's recipes before -- so I was surprised. I am wondering if you have had the same experience with this white glaze? Here is the recipe -- the same one as posted on your page here.

Whiting  20

Frit 3124  25

Nepheline Syenite  25

Add Zircopax  10

Thanks Troy. I've been testing several whites lately. Yours is truly exquisite, beautiful cup. I'll test this one too.

Hello Patricia, I got this recipe from a CM magazine Sept. 1985 page 13. It is Cushing Satin Matt.

Nepheline Syenite  25

EPK  15

Flint  15

Add Zircopax  10

I fired this to cone 6 in a old kiln with just a sitter, nothing fancy. The clay was either 182 or 153 by Standard. I was working on a bunch of different Temoko glazes at the time, so I can't really say what the liner really is.

beautiful glaze. Do you have the recipe?
