Potters & Sculptors - Making Rock from Mud
I found an interesting bit of research to further justify wasting time making pots.

So Lawrence, you do need to justify the time and efforts spent squezing clay? :-)
For my part I knew since a long time that pleasing yourself is good for you and involves hormones hence is addictive.
I conclude that scientists needed a justification to spend some time on research :-)
Btw, I'm chemist by education... and now I enjoy squezing clay in all kinds of processes and enjoy also much of my time in formulating glazes.
I did no research on this topic, but my personal experience is that the reduction of stress depends on the initial stress level. I used to take pottery lessons once a week after work. Most of the time it was relaxing, but after a really bad day at work, I could not center the clay, my pots would fly off the wheel or fail in other ways, just increasing the stress. I am retired now and do not need any further reduction of stress :)
