Hope this is the correct way to ask a question.  How do you get a clean line between 2 colors on the rim of a mug?  Such as a liner glaze inside and a different one on the outside.  I have noticed pictures on the site with a very clean break between the glazes just at the top of the rim.

Hi Bill,
I am not a really experienced glazer so if I wanted to accomplish that I would brush it on or spray it on. If I attempted to dip that it would be a disaster! ;)

I do not get a sharply precise line with my approach as there is normally a very slight overlap of the two glazes, but... I glaze the inside with my liner glaze and after pouring it out of the piece, touch the edge of the lip in the glaze.  After it has dried, I press the piece, right side up into the bucket of glaze and allow the glaze to come up the outside to hit the liner glaze.  I have also waxed the rim after doing the inside liner and allowing it to dry and then followed the same process as above to get a sharper line where the two glazes meet, as the wax prevent any overlap.  Hope this makes sense.  -carl

Thanks Jennifer & Carl.  Still working with it.  Got some ideas from a Google search to try also.

part of the trick is using glaze that doesn't move much.
