Getting Information Out of the Database

Insight-Live allows for the output of reports on a glaze recipe and a batch mix sheet which is a special version of the glaze report which gives the amounts of ingredients for user selectable batch sizes.

This is how a recipe report from Insight-Live looks when copied back to our network. It is VERY EASY and includes the picture.

Kathy Ransom - I got this recipe from Prince Albert Potters Guild who got it from Saskatoon Potters Guild who got it from ?. It is a warm brown where thin and a glossy brown with green spots where thick.

I purchased the single user version of Insight on my computer. Is it possible to export from Live and import into my program? Or should I ask this question at the database site? This would be so I could play around with changing the recipes to learn the chemistry. Thanks.

If you expand the XML window from the Insight-Live, you should be able to copy that data, and import it as a new recipe into the Insight glaze calculation software. I haven't tried this myself.  If you have trouble with it, go to the I-L conversation manager (the envelopes icon) and start a ticket addressed to Tony.  He will let you know how to do it.

Thanks George. I clicked on the XML button and copied the window contents. Then I went into Insight program and under Utility menu I selected XML which gave me a similar window to paste into. I had to manually add the notes as they did not come in with the XML file. I had a problem getting the photo in but discovered that the recipe had to be saved into the database before adding the picture. I was working with Val's Turquois (sp.) Cone 6 and at first it wouldn't give me the option to save. I figured out that the Gerstley Borate had been misspelled as "Gerstely" and when I corrected that it let me save. Next I just pulled the photo on to my desktop and then dragged it into the Picture window. Is there a size limit on the photos, 100 x 76 is very tiny for evaluation. 

I would have corrected the spelling in the Live site but only the owner can. Thanks

I have a related question...How to export a recipe from Glazemaster into Insight. I have a number of reciptes I'd like to upload. Glazemaster has an export feature, but as far as I can see, it only allows batch exporting. Do you know how to export a single recipe?

I suggest you temporarily move the recipes you want to export to Insight-Live into a seperate recipe set in Glazemaster then batch export just that recipe set in XML format.  If all goes well, the file and all the recipes will import into I-L in one operation. I would like to know how this works for you as I have only done one Glazemaster import into I-L

This would be a very good procedure to test further and to consult with Tony on.  When I imported the Sankey database, I had trouble, but he was able to make it work. These types of xml transfers would make a good topic for an online group meeting/seminar for members who already have a good understanding of the more basic functions of Insight-Live.

Remember that Tony Hansen built both systems and is better qualified than any of us to understand how they can work together
