9"x 5" x 3" slab and 'gauze' construction.
This is an experimental piece just to see what the gauze would do.

Thanks! Here's something else the gauze will do: you can use it like caulking to join bone dry slabs. This creates all kinds of construction possibilities. I'll post some new photos soon. Marla

This vase is just amazing! I love it. I'v used gauze but never without a solid backing. This opens up a whole new thought process for me. Thanks for sharing. Margene

Thank you for your kind words...You are correct, the gauze is dipped in slip. It can be strong if enough layers are used, think something like paper mache? Sometimes it is really too fragile to survive much, like a spider web. I have been working with this gauze/slip idea for a while now and am coming up with some interesting discoveries, things that are hard to imagine! I hope to put together a video or some such. Thanks, Marla

This sculpture makes me want to look inside, it reminds me of a large hollowed out tree I saw the other day and if I could have figured out how to get it I would have crawled inside of it.  Just wondering is the gauze dipped in slip and applied and is it extremely fragile. Very interesting work.  Denice
