Thanks George for the info. I had some Alberta slip on hand and not the Ravenscrag so I thought I would check.
I think the Pavarotti Gold is a nice glaze.

Juli, it would be a very different glaze. As I understand it both Alberta Slip and Ravenscrag are produced by Plainsman Clay and their mineral contents are very different.

Do you think the Pavarotti Gold glaze could be made with Alberta slip instead of the Ravenscrag slip?

Hi George,
Let's hope they're good! I have liked the RS glazes I have done, especially the Plum Red. I am going to try some Alberta Slip glazes as well. I was also thinking of combining RS & AS, because you have to calcine 1/2 of the AS when you use it in recipes. Will post some results, but I for sure want to try the PG layered..... jhp

Jeff - Yes and Yes. The nutmeg they have down here is darker and matter than the way it comes out for me at home. I have used this combination along with Spearmint (from MC6G) with very nice results in my preliminary attempts. Three large bowls with these glazes sprayed on should be out of the kiln tomorrow. It may be a while before I can post photos, assuming they are worth posting :-) The Pavarotti Gold is a rich amber by itself over white clay. Based on results so far, I definitely want to try it layered with others of my stock glazes, and to take a longer look at the Ravenscrag Slip glazes in general.

Pavarotti Gold is the local name at MIY Ceramics and Glass for the Cone 6 base recipe for Ravenscrag Slip glaze (glossy), colored with red iron oxide.
Recipe
Material Amount Ravenscrag Slip 80.00 Ferro Frit 3134 20.00 100.00
with additions of
6% Red Iron Oxide
2% Bentonite

As yet no one has tested and commented on the remarkably inexpensive air brushes at harbor freight.
