This is Kathy's test tile.  This is what it should look like. I have several pots with it on my page but they are all layered with other glazes but you can still see the "frogskin".  jhp

Hi Juli

Is that on a buff clay?  I have never seen Frogskin look like that. I have used it on white, brown, red and porcelain but have never seen it look like that.  It's almost like there is no copper or titanium dioxide in it.  Mine has always come out very similar to Kathy's test tile.  Even when layered with other glazes, it imparts its "frogskin" character.  jhp

Jeff

The green is smooth. I don't mind the speckles (crystals?) but had no idea what they are. Thanks for the insight.

I have had a few fun pots with frogskin. I wish I had taken pictures.

I always do a hold to let everything equalize at the top end.  It also helps everything settle down and smooth out if the glaze has matured.  of course it doesn't hurt to do a slow ramp back down for a little ways either.  jhp

if that green is smooth and not pinholed or bumpy,  I would say those are crystals.  jhp

Norm

Thanks so much for the sharing your knowledge.  I will try refining with a hold.

Is it generally better to overfire a touch rather than underfire a little?

I would really like to see other people's tests of Frogskin, as it has always been a very beautiful glaze for me.
