It's just thick slip from the clay I use. I take a large brush full or two and create swirls for the glaze to break over and gather on during the melt.

When you say you swirl some slip, is the slip just made up of the clay body, or a different clay? Does it have some other materials in it to promote interaction with the glazes?

I used SCM and Randy's Red.
I sprayed the SCM on the interior of the bowl and then I dipped the bowl in Randy's Red w/ Spanish RIO.
I like to swirl some slip in the bowl right after it's thrown to get some interesting glaze breaks.

Harbor Freight is a great place to find unbeatable prices for better HVLP spray guns with stainless steel parts and serviceable economy models, as well as detail guns, all tested by our members for spraying glazes, as well as compressors to power the guns. As yet no one has tested and commented on the remarkably inexpensive air brushes at harbor freight.
The critter siphon gun is a spray alternative that is well liked by some of our members, and is available at amazon.
