Jeff I know what you mean when it comes to large hands, I rarely run into someone with larger hands than mine.  My husbands hands are at least and inch shorter and two ring sizes smaller.  It's hard to center and throw small balls of clay so I learned to throw off the hump.  The only small pot I have is from school also for a grade.  Denice

I'm envious.

One day I'll have others at our studio show me how to throw a pot. Even with bracing my arms on my knees I don't find it easy to coax clay into a symmetrical shape.

The one-time experience reminded me of playing golf, where you need a perfect mechanical swing - ugh@.

Understanding chemistry is so much easier.

I know what you mean.  I have a buddy that the clay just flows around his hands!  Me, I have to really work at it.  Of course I cheat & use a hair dryer & a throwing stick.  You have to when using porcelain or it will flop right down. With my big paws I can't make anything small either.  The smallest thing I even made was a small little pot in high school that we had to make for a grade.  Most everything else was big.  If I can find it, I'll post a pic.  jhp

Now that's impressive, I'm not a natural thrower even after taking 3 semesters of it in college, I would never attempt something so radical.  I throw with soft clay since my wrists are worn out after 45 years of clay.  If I attempt a complicated form I work on it for a while and then let it set up and start again later.   Denice

Actually the best part of this bottle is that I made it in 1 piece instead of 2.  Is it as thin as I would like?  Not yet.  Is it a perfect shape? Not yet, but it gives me something to keep aiming for.  jhp

I tried putting moly on it last night, but it came out looking like #*%@!  I will re-spray it tonite & try again.  If it comes out, I can always put the luster gold on in a 3rd firing(actually 4th!)  jhp

Very funny, if you can get the gold and enameled finish on the outside maybe you'll get a genie.  Denice
