My favorite part is the lid. I think spraying would do the trick as long as you got the thickness right when spraying. jhp

Hi Liz
Which Tenmoku recipe are you using? I tried using CHarris Tenmoku with an ash nuke glaze over it. It worked on a test but not on the pot. I would try spraying it. Let me know. jhp

This is an 18" high vase and lid. Made at MIY Studio in Hollywood, Fl. It is High Water clays earthen red cone 5. The pieces were bisque fired together then glaze fired in the same kiln (but the lid was not on) by Erik Evans. I put a light coat of tenmuko on the vase and waxed tall waxy shapes on the bottom of vase, then sprayed tenmuko again. I spayed the lid at this time. (The waxed part came out black.) Let dry. Masked off the bottom and sprayed Hannah's fake ash on the shoulder of the vase and the whole lid. Painted the fake ash as drip shapes from the top where the spray of fake ash ended into the middle. The lid and the shoulders of the vase came out very different colors even though they were glazed and fired at the same time. The lid is maroon and the shoulder of the vase is grey, black and red where it has crawled. I guess that the application of the fake ash was too thick on the shoulder of the vase. The part that I applied with a brush is grey and green. I applied several coats in a downward motion.

I like this glaze combo very much but I haven't mastered the application. I was going for the maroon color. I think that May be achieved with a thick coat of tenmoku and a thin coat of fake ash. I've gotten a variety of results with this glaze combo.
