I have a small electric kiln in my home studio. I have always been interested in firing to Cone 6 even when it was not a popular idea and before the internet was around to help us with so much valuable information. I am very happy to have discovered this website and to start experimenting with some of the glazes posted by its members and to share my results.
All our content is viewable by the public. Why do you want to be a member, when you can already see everything as a non-member?
To share information with other like minded people.

    There are a number of Web sites that have Frit equivalents such as http://www.puttgarden.com/crystal/tech/frit/CompetitionEquival_Frit... and http://www.ceramicstoday.com/frits.htm

    Using this type of resource you may find that a different manufacturer makes a very similar frit to one that is obsolete from your normal source.

    Thanks Jan! When I started teaching there we had only 2 wheels, 1 old 7cf kiln and 20 students signed up to take pottery. With grants and support from the school and community (and a lot of hard work) I now have 15 wheels, 3 electric kilns plus the 70cf wood-kiln. Next year over 300 kids are signed up to take pottery classes and it often takes 3 years or more to get into one of the adult pottery classes. Pottery has been very good to me and I have tried to share my passion with others:) While my personal work is important to me, it is also a fantastic feeling to teach someone a skill and witness the satisfaction they find in the process. So you live in Australia? I visited there a year ago visiting my sister-in-law in Sydney, they now moved to London and we leave tomorrow for another trip... Nice to have summers off to recharge. cheers

    Jan--I guess the glazes I posted got lost. That piece has ancient Jasper by amaco brushed on, wax resist, then the rest is variegated slate blue from MC6

    Hi Jan, A Happy and Creative 2012 to you also. we seemed to be off to a hot start but I'm back to my shed Berret today and a big jumper. I've been pretty slack studio wise over the past 4 weeks but getting back in gear now. I'm off to New Zealand, mainly Aucland in about three weeks for a wee holiday, do you know any potters over there I'd love to get in a couple of studio visits if I can, will also be driving down as far as Wanganui for a couple of days. Let me know if you think of someone! Well Im off to wash off the clay, put on some lippy and heading down to one of the Adelaide pubs for a Pizza a beer and a bit of a strum along with my Ukulele mates, crazy but true, its a lot of fun! so keep up the great work.     thanks for the welcome Jan.  I appreciate it.  The bowl is long gone to a friend of mine.  It was nicknamed "The Cabbage Bowl".  That is about its size and color.  It is a stoneware bowl, electricity fired to cone 6, glazed with MC6G "Spearmint".  It was made with extruded ribbons and texturized slabs in a plaster mold.

    Thanks....it's fun.  One of my galleries is within walking distance (Wildchild). We have a bridge (currently working on a new one) so shopping is easy.....sometimes I wish there wasn't a bridge.  There are several islands nearby that only are boat access. (North Captiva...Ussepa, and Cabbage Key)

    Hi Jan,
    I did my first firing last week, a mad rush to get some teapots fired prior to a submission deadline for the newer edition of 500 Teapots.  Who knows what the juror will think, but I photographed the two best ones. I glazed them without doing any test tiles prior, and they really turned out nicely.  I used the Steven Hill recipes that he sent to me after I purchased his video..Anyway when I get home I will post the shots so you all can see the results.  I am inspired now to try many more "non Steven Hill" glazes, something he encourages.  Basically any cone 6 glaze sprayed over the Crystal Magic Warm and Cool glazes, and cooled according to the schedule, should produce interesting results.

    Jan, Dave & I live on the mid north coast at Stuarts Point (1/2hr north of Kempsey), my sis in law lives on the Central Coast (Bateau Bay), where we originally came from too.  All 3 of us went to the C.C. Potters Society for a term of lessons, bought our own wheels & the addiction continues to this day.
