Rutile Matte - This is the skin tone of my Clayton Mudd character.
Cone: 6 Color: pinkish orange
Firing: Oxidation
Surface: Slightly variegated matte
I don't recall the source of this recipe
Amount Ingredient
44    Nepheline Syenite
17.4 Whiting
14    Kaolin--EPK
19.6 Silica
5     Zinc Oxide

Additives
7     Rutile

This might not be exactly what you're looking for, but it might be a good starting point where you can vary the amount of rutile and/or other colorants such as iron or manganese. As a plus, it has been very consistent and reliable for me.  Good luck.

This is a little off the point, but I always thought it was sort of funny. First I want to say that I am a very unprejudice person and I don't want any of this to be taken wrongly. I am quite white and at one point in my life I was dating a black gal.  Great gal. We went by my moms chuch for some reason and when we got there my mom had just finished painting the nursery area. The color was the old stand by "tenement pink"  ( almost as bad as "Landlord Green") Mom says " We painted this flesh tone." My girlfriend laughs and says  "Whos flesh?" There is probably no point to this blog but I can't hear the words flesh tone and not smile a bit.... I do have a caucasian glaze. How I came by it may throw you for a loop... They say necessity is the mother of invention. I think poverty is much more maternal. I did a mural for a lady wanting her childs portrait on an  illustration from the book "the Velveteen Rabbit" To get the flesh tones for the little girl I used some glaze that had given to me. The brand is A.R.T.  wwwartclay.com I do not know if they are still around. I used a mix of Bone FW2045 and Blush FW2042 . I used a rato of 3/6, 6/6, 6/3 of the two glazes for a contrast of light and dark. I fired them to cone 6,  flat. This was a tile piece. They came out perfect. The loop? They are lowfire 05 glazes. If I need a caucasian face glaze again, this is what I will use. I myself need a glaze for five African children faces "Flesh tone" I worked on one for a long time and it is sort of so so. Skin tones are hard. Talking too much, Kabe

My little man there is definitely in a minority of existent flesh tones. What's really embarrassing is that I didn't even think about it. Thanks for the wake-up call, Kabe.

Hi George, No reason to be embarrassed The whole conversation was a "Ah-ha" moment for me at the time. I am looking for a picture of the mural I think it is on some slide film. I am going to run some test tiles of the 05 glaze fired at cone 6 to show how will it worked. I hope it will again. Plus I really do need a good flesh tone for the faces of 5 African children. Have a great day
