- What is your experience with ceramics in general. (Long answer encouraged)
- I attended a 4 day Steven Hill workshop in June 2009.
When I started, my original interest was to fire cone 6 in oxidation, and because of the classes I was taking at a public college, we only fired reduction cone 10. We made our own glazes and had access to large quantities for pouring and dipping.
I work in clay most of the year. I have my own studio and also enroll in classes that interest me. I make work for art fairs and also galleries.
- What is your current involvement with electric fired ceramics? (long answer encouraged)
- I work in a clay studio 4 months out of the year in Green Valley, AZ in the winter which has helped me transition back into mid-fire. It was hard at first because I was only familiar with high fire glazes that I really liked. In Arizona we only use commercial glazes which are harder to use because of the smaller amounts and unfamiliar results. I wanted to be able to work and fire at home which I am finally doing. I now feel more comfortable with cone 6 glazes and enjoy using them. I attended a cone 6-7 glaze making class for oxidation and reduction in Minnesota and ended up with a couple nice glazes that I will make. For me, I do not like the results of brushing on glazes, so I spray most of my pieces. I do not have a spray booth, but I set up a system outside which works well for me.

- I became a member in the very beginning when there was only a few of us after taking a Steven Hill class. I believe a member in our class started this site, so I wanted to stay connected. My path ended me in a different direction with high fire reduction, and I wasn't able to contribute to this site, but I'm now back to what I originally wanted to do. Although I am negligent with checking in with my internet, I like meeting new artists and sharing ideas and information.

Harbor Freight is a great place to find unbeatable prices for better HVLP spray guns with stainless steel parts and serviceable economy models, as well as detail guns, all tested by our members for spraying glazes, as well as compressors to power the guns. As yet no one has tested and commented on the remarkably inexpensive air brushes at harbor freight.
The critter siphon gun is a spray alternative that is well liked by some of our members, and is available at amazon.
Amazon is also a competitive source for photo light tents for shooting professional quality pictures of your work. They also have the EZ Cube brand favored by several of our members. You might also want to purchase the book Photographing Arts, Crafts and Collectibles . . .

ebay is a great alternative for many tools and the equipment used in the ceramics studio - kilns, wheels, extruders, slab rollers are often listed there both new and used.

I was June 17-18, 2009 class too. I see in your picture here, that the photo was taken at Steven Hill's.
The three pots next to your right elbow are mine.
