- What is your experience with ceramics in general. (Long answer encouraged)
- I started working with clay 2 1/2 years ago after taking a class at our local high school. I began throwing and because of an injury I began handbuilding and fell in love with it. I had an opportunity to buy a kiln and slab roller so everything fell into place and now I am a small buiness owner. My company is called 4 The Birds Pottery and I specialize in whimsical potter for the home and garden with a botanical flair.
- What is your current involvement with electric fired ceramics? (long answer encouraged)
- I work with stoneware clay because of its durability for my outdoor pieces and easy of use for my funtional pieces for the home. I fire at cone 6/7 and mainly use food safe glazes. I have an older L & L J230 electric kiln which works great for me. I use a Kiln Sitter to adjust the firing heat and it is up there in years as well. I just ordered 2 new sets of elements as my botton unit is going. Installing these will be another learning experience for me. At some poing I woud like to replace my kiln with a newer automated one.

- Since I am no longer taking classes I find the internet and fellow potters are my inspiration to learn and enhance my skills. I like being a part of a community.

Harbor Freight is a great place to find unbeatable prices for better HVLP spray guns with stainless steel parts and serviceable economy models, as well as detail guns, all tested by our members for spraying glazes, as well as compressors to power the guns. As yet no one has tested and commented on the remarkably inexpensive air brushes at harbor freight.
The critter siphon gun is a spray alternative that is well liked by some of our members, and is available at amazon.
Amazon is also a competitive source for photo light tents for shooting professional quality pictures of your work. They also have the EZ Cube brand favored by several of our members. You might also want to purchase the book Photographing Arts, Crafts and Collectibles . . .
If you are up to creating videos of your work or techniques you might want to invest in a flip video camera

ebay is a great alternative for many tools and the equipment used in the ceramics studio - kilns, wheels, extruders, slab rollers are often listed there both new and used.
