Finally, I got to visit Catherine Rehbein at the opening of her home-grown gallery, and purchase several of her pieces. She has many photos on her profile page here C6P, and she has her own Webite catherinerehbein.com. Like a cub reported, I messed up camera settings and ruined all my photos there, except this one of her in front of her newly remodeled gallery which, so far, is only open 4 days per year. Talk about an exclusive place! Salud, Catherine -- You have done very well for yourself.

Thanks Catherine.  On the blog, the first two pictures are actually the same pot, just different angles.  I have had some luck getting the warm brown with used barn straw (used as in the cows used it!) The straw has been urine soaked and then dried out.  I suspect that is where the salt comes from and who knows, maybe that's where the brown comes from.  In this firing I had mostly bisque ware fired to cone 010, but that particular piece was fired to cone 06.  I have had the same brown happen before and always on the pieces fired to cone 06.  I suspect that being less porous, it absorbed less carbon and only got to brown instead of black.  I did have some copper carbonate in this firing, but not near that pot.  It's all guess work and experimenting.  I love it!!
