Hi Joan,

Thank you. It is an overglaze technique.  I'm using an iron decal, applied to a translucent porcelain cabochon that (already) has a satin clear glaze.

Older black laser jet printers laid down their print in a plastic medium that had iron particles embedded, rendering black print on paper! (The new ones do not use iron/enough iron and are useless for this technique.)

As a result, a few companies have come up with coated decal papers that will withstand a little heat, and can be run through some of the older laser jet printers. My designs are printed to the decal paper, I cut them out, soak them lightly so that the decal will separate, put them on the ceramic surface, squeeze out water, dry overnight...and fire at Cone 06.

I've done some other work using stains directly on damp clay, glazing after it dries, and firing at Cone 5 (I single fire). They do not burn out. Duncan's latest stains (E-Z Strokes is brand name) seem to hold well through firing. I'm assuming they're using mason stains in the formula--large number of Mason Stains are good through Cone 10.

Beautiful work Victoria. I have tried drawing with RIO on tissue, then transferring to bisque. When glazed and refired, the image always looks washed out. What is your method- do you use an oil-based pigment? Thanks.
