Thanks for the info. George!  I will have to continue trying to work on these effects.  I don't have the capacity to spray and won't for another few years.  I have a feeling that my glaze is too thin.  I will try decanting some water and see what happens.  If I get it to work, I will post a picture.

Again, thank you for responding, it is appreciated!!!

I've never seen either of the Hannah's fake ash glazes go to a dry matte. For me they usually are in the semi glossy, satiny, or semi matte range. Where they pull away (like crawling) the residual thin coating can be matte because the body texture is so thinly covered. To get the effects I'm getting in this picture, the fake ash glaze is sprayed thick on bare clay and just barely lapping over the top edge of the the glaze on the bottom half of the the pot.  You will not get the same effect if you layer over another glaze. You can see in the mixing zone in the middle that it doesn't exhibit as much crawling as it does higher on the pot.

Hi George,

I mixed up a batch of Hannah's Fake Ash Blue.  Does it always need to be layered over another glaze?  I did a test on the inside of a bowl and it is a very dry matte.  Is this what I should expect?  The other issue might be that it is too thin.

Thanks for any info you can provide.
