Yes Louis, I make the handles!  Such a fun part of the pot!

Also, my extruder is not THAT large... the hollow dies are about 5" in diameter.

Terra Sig:

Water     6 cups

OM4       4-1/2 cups

sodium silicate    1-1/2 tsp

Mix liquids then add clay.  Mix and let stand 36 hours.  Three layers will form.  Siphon off and discard top layer, collect middle layer, discard bottom layer.

For colors, for 1 cup terra sig base, add:

Green: 2 tsp Crome oxide

Warm Brown: 1 TBL RIO

Dk Grey Black:  4 tsp black mason stain

yes....i was just looking for one on line......wow, you have a large extruder!  I have a friend that goes to a plant where they extrude large terrcotta pipes for a city.....she goes maybe one time a year.......makes beautiful, large garden sculptures (barbara kobylinska) check out her work

Funny Louis... this started out as a beginner, extruded pot project, so I wasn't initially planning on doing sgraffitto.  I coated the clay with black terra sig and scraped away the black.  It has a clear glaze over it.  Haven't forgotten about getting you the recipe for the naked raku slip resist.  Do you need the black terra sig recipe?

Love the look of this.....Are you using a black slip? (recipe) or a commercial velvet ? .   Do you paint the whole thing black and then scrape/carve?  A white clay body would really make this pop.

Thanks so much Joan... I'll have to put up another photo of the back of this... kind of a "country bird/city bird" piece.

Wonderful graphics and almost looks like it is a woven birch bark basket
