Oh I feel stupid. I didn't read your original post carefully, I thought I read that you put the slip on after you glazed. As Homer Simpson would say  - Doh!

It's just thick slip from the clay I use. I take a large brush full or two and create swirls for the glaze to break over and gather on during the melt.

When you say you swirl some slip, is the slip just made up of the clay body, or a different clay? Does it have some other materials in it to promote interaction with the glazes?

Donna,

I used SCM and Randy's Red.

I sprayed the SCM on the interior of the bowl and then I dipped the bowl in Randy's Red w/ Spanish RIO.

I like to swirl some slip in the bowl right after it's thrown to get some interesting glaze breaks.
