I'm not sure about the lightening but I've gotten a really pretty celadon with the addition of cobalt or copper or a combination of the two. I rarely use a pure white but prefer the warmth I get in my glazes with a buff clay.

Yes, I like the simplicity of ingredients. However, I tested it on mid range English Grolleg as a transparent and it came out not clear but dirty brown yellow transparent. I read somewhere that to use a small amount of cobalt to lighten it .But does that make sense?

It is Ravenscrag slip which is a terrific cone 10 glaze and with 20% frit is is also a terrific clear (slightly milky) cone 6 glaze. I find the color response isn't as good as some but you can get great colors with strong oxides such as cobalt & copper. It is really stable on the mid fire stoneware I use, M340. I think it's a good material for people just starting into their own glazes because you only need a few materials to get a palette of glazes.

The glaze is made with Ravenscrag slip and I don't remember the name given to it by Plainsman but I've been calling it Raven's Lime. I added it to Insight Live a couple of days ago so you should be able to search it there.

Harbor Freight is a great place to find unbeatable prices for better HVLP spray guns with stainless steel parts and serviceable economy models, as well as detail guns, all tested by our members for spraying glazes, as well as compressors to power the guns. As yet no one has tested and commented on the remarkably inexpensive air brushes at harbor freight.
The critter siphon gun is a spray alternative that is well liked by some of our members, and is available at amazon.
