I'd love to say that's my piece but it's merely a convenient photo illustrating Magnesium crawl glazes.

Thanks! I like your piece. I enjoy experimenting, yes, your summary is correct, The glaze didn't really look lumpy going on, but kinda flaked off a little as it dried. Then got more exaggerated during or after firing. Next, I'm going to test some pieces of Redart pottery with a wood ash glaze on the bottom coat and some other glazes over top.

Essentially, you fired a glaze with lumpy application, applied a brown glaze to the low areas and refired.

"Accidents" can be fun and educational.  In my profile it says,

What are you looking for in this network?  Sharing ideas and happy accidents.

Usually this sort of crawl look would be created by applying the brown glaze (it has to be be fairly stiff and matte) or an underglaze, then applying a white magnesium carbonate crawl over the top.

Unique is also the word I would use, I don't like it more than I do like it. It is rather interesting and unusual. It was a mistake. Two things happened. First, when I remixed the dried glaze, Stoney White,\, I didn't get it thoroughly mixed, and secondly, during firing a fuse blew. So I painted Nutmeg over the white and then wiped the white clean, and re-fired. I've just had two 6 week classes and I'm new to this. I made my first wood ash glaze, which came out a nice brown. Do you want more info on the weird glaze?

Susan - The surface you have on this piece is quite unique.

A magnesium crawl combined with a brown engobe?
