The third firing (12 pots, four pics) used the same schedule as the second firing so this was also cone 8. I think I finally figured out how thick to spray the glazes on. No runs and much better color. I should probably use a little less of the Black Walnut on the neck but this batch will be completely functional.

These were all fired above cone 6. The first set to cone 9 (peak temp 2250) and the second set to cone 8 (peak temp 2220). Looking at the Orton charts, 2220 is a nice cone 6 temperature, but the long hold and slow cool apparently pushed it up to cone 8.
My firing schedule was:
570/hr to 2000
200/hr to 2220 (first firing was 2250)
one hour hold at 2220
150/hr (down) to 1700

Harbor Freight is a great place to find unbeatable prices for better HVLP spray guns with stainless steel parts and serviceable economy models, as well as detail guns, all tested by our members for spraying glazes, as well as compressors to power the guns. As yet no one has tested and commented on the remarkably inexpensive air brushes at harbor freight.
The critter siphon gun is a spray alternative that is well liked by some of our members, and is available at amazon.
