Carl no matter your intent,  it is a very fine piece and I do agree with Robert that it might be even more powerful within a group.

What came to mind when I first looked at the piece was that this was maybe part of a series of sculptures ....Wisdom...Courage...compassion...etc. Anyway it might play better as part of a group rather than a stand alone piece. Many artists incorporate text in their art, but I think it may force an interpretation on the piece that they may not agree with. That's what happened to my piece.

Anyway, the sculpture is well done and there is some one out there who will love it.

I look forward to seeing your clown that tells jokes in exchange for railroad stock.

 - Juxtaposition, irony, sarcasm was more my goal.  I am working on a clown that offers to tell jokes in exchange for railroad stocks:)  -appropriating classical Greek or zen would be beyond my reach. - I would settle for Neo-Coney Island or American Pickers Redux.

What I should have said is harmonious, the style of the sculpture is very classic Greek revival and the type looks like too modern. Mixing type in art is not easy, I would audition the type by photographing the sculpture and then adding the text to the photo and changing font size and type until you have harmony between both. Kind of zen but it works.

thanks Nadine and Robert for the encouragement.  Robert, I am currently working on a piece based on Constantine's vision and plan to include a rather lengthy quote.  Hadn't considered that it might be a drawback; thanks for the consideration.  Nadine, would you explain what you mean by the style not being in synch?  thanks.

Carl,

I am not crazy about the words only because the style is not in synch with the style of the piece,  words don't bother me.  The sculpture is AMAZING.  How did you fire this?  Details please.

Very nice work Carl. I tried a couple of pieces with words on them and some people liked the piece but not the words, so I didn't do any more.

You get any feedback like that?
