What is your experience with ceramics in general. (Long answer encouraged)
I was introduced to ceramics in elementary school, continued classes in high school and college. In college I learned about making glazes and various construction methods.
Recently, after retirement, I have focused on experimenting with different construction methods and hand building techniques. I am trying to find "my thing" without making my work look as if I "had ONE original idea", ha-ha. I hate it when that happens! My work tends to be 'sculptural' in style with hopefully interesting textures and forms. The work done by Japanese potters both ancient and current is very attractive to me. I appreciate the simple and interesting forms. I have experimented with oil lamps that burn vegetable oil. These have many advantages over kerosene lamps for example if the lamp breaks and falls on the floor the flames go out; they do not spread. Also, most households have on hand some kind of oil that will burn such as olive oil, peanut oil, etc. The design of the lamps is ancient.
The past three years have been seriously devoted to a major rebuilding project of a small shotgun house in New Orleans. The completion of this project is within sight. My plan is to explore the marketing possibilities in the New Orleans (NOLA) area to see how I might sell pieces in that market.
Some of my experimental work involves the use of gauze saturated with slip and either applied to a clay body or used in conjunction with clay but forming the entire piece with the gauze/slip.
What is your current involvement with electric fired ceramics? (long answer encouraged)
I do hobby work and previously had pieces displayed in The Gumbo Gallery in Pensacola, FL.Currently I show at the Dragonfly Gallery in Milton, FL and at Miles Antique Mall in Pensacola.
