This piece is stoneware glazed with cone 10 mat white fired to cone 5/6 electric @ AMOCA studio. All the corners were wiped to reveal black under glaze applied to green ware. The glazed fired to a crystallized finish, resembling sand paper. To see more go to: http://www.frankbarron.com/Ceramics.htm
Partially melted glazes aren't food-safe but the effect sure can be beautiful and reliably matte. Another advantage is partially melted glazes don't run or blend with under-glazes. I've used Cone 6 glazes at Cone 06 to obtain the same look.
Being that AMOCA is a fairly long drive for you, do you do your work there or just take the completed pieces to AMOCA to fire?

I love the new work.

This is wonderful, love the way your glaze treatment gives the sharp angles an extra 'pop'!
