Small test kiln
I found a small 115V kiln on my Craigslist and I think it would make a great test kiln. I'm limited in space right now but I would like to create my own glazes and I've been thinking of buying it to at least be able to run test tiles through. What do y'all think? I'm sure some of you have experience in this type of thing. Any advice would be greatly apreciated.

Hi John,
I think a small test kiln is always a good idea. It's best if it mimics your actual regular kiln as close as possible so that if you get something really amazing in the test kiln you can duplicate it on a larger scale. I have to stick test tiles in with regular loads and it is frustrating to have to wait sometimes. I actually had a small kiln made for me by Vulcan kilns as I had an extra controller to put on it. Had to wait though to get the s-type tc to go with it. Hopefully I can get it put together over memorial day. I had it made just big enough to also do Christmas ornaments in as well. There's just never enough hours in the day!

I have a 110 20 amp skutt that I have for sale, the reason is that it takes FOREVER to get to cone 6, no venting system. I cannot plug it to my Skutt controller so it is not a replica of my big kiln and therefore I don't trust the tests...I suggest that you sacrifice some space in your standard kiln for test glazes.

Harbor Freight is a great place to find unbeatable prices for better HVLP spray guns with stainless steel parts and serviceable economy models, as well as detail guns, all tested by our members for spraying glazes, as well as compressors to power the guns. As yet no one has tested and commented on the remarkably inexpensive air brushes at harbor freight.
The critter siphon gun is a spray alternative that is well liked by some of our members, and is available at amazon.
