Molybdenum use

Hello anyone has a cone 6 recipe for crystalline glaze using molybdenum  as Lasse Ostman  at www.stoneware.net/  gets stunning results but fires to 1260 celcius

Hi Kees,

    I don't remember seeing any moly in Lassse's pottery.  I have used several of his crystalline glazes.  I have used crystalline glazes from Sanders but they are ^3 - ^4 or else ^9 - ^10.  I think I have a recipe from a thesis that a gal from Florida did that was from ^6, but I will have to check  Have you tried using moly in regular crystalline glazes?  jhp

Herbert h Sanders book is one I would like to get because of this information

Firing kiln now with test where I have added 4% molybdenum to cone 6 crystalline glaze

Will know in the next 2 days

That explains why I haven't seen them as I don't fb.  4% is about the standard amount to use.  It's what I always add to my tests.  One thing is you need to close up your kiln before it hits 700c. Moly goes straight to vapor so you need to keep as much of it in the kiln as you can so it redeposits back on the pieces to form crystals. Also fire as many pieces with it on them as you can at one time.   I have ceramic fibre between the rings on my kilns and I close all the peeps before I hit 700c.  I have some pics on my page of moly things I've done.  It my favorite thing to work with but also the most frustrating!  jhp

Since I rawglaze over night , always leave topbung kiln out and close it at 1000 celcius in the morning so should be interesting to see results then
