Potters & Sculptors - Making Rock from Mud
I have set up a web site with glaze tests for any one interested. Tried an true recipes that are some of my favorites.
Site is better with Opera or Chrome
Leach clear. I usually brush on one coat and spoung one one coat. Don't get it thick or it will get milky. One pour on coat not too thick would probably work too. Experiment.
Thanks. I've been really leary of "clear" glazes. I make monster mugs and on a couple of them, their eyes wound up looking like they have cataracts. I've been very careful since then. I make the clear glaze THIN -- more like milk than heavy cream. I usually brush on ONE coat.
But like you said -- experiment!!!
Here's my facebook Monstermugs page.
Randy I've just mixed up some Rowe's Brown. Does this glaze run? I'm going to put it on a cookie, just in case, but I'd like to hear from you since you are experienced with it.
I really really appreciate these glaze recipes you've posted at the link above.
I'll post pics of my results.
No it does not run. Hope you can use the glazes. These are some of the most reliable
glazes I have come across in my thirty years of pottery. They are especially useful in layering and that
is where it is at a Cone 6. They are all public glazes as far as I know. just sharing like so many have done for me.....
thanks again for posting them. I intend to have a lot of fun mixing them and using them!!
I just mixed up the C Harris Tenmoku. It called for Ball Clay #1 -- but all I had was either Tennessee ball clay or OM-4. So I used the Tennessee ball clay. I'll post pics of how it came out. Where does one get Ball Clay #1? Our ceramic store is rather limited in its ball clays.
The version listed by George in the database here uses EPK.. Maybe George can pipe in here. jhp
Either will work, The main thing with this glase is to use special rio. This is the pure form.
What special rio? I just used regular Red Iron Oxide.
Site seems to be working ok now in Explorer 8 you just have to scroll down to get past
just curious, I'm having some pinholing. what clay did you change from and to what?
I was using ellen buff from highwater and changed to red stone no more pinholes.
