I recycled a failed Upright freeze as a drying cabinet. It works so well that things don't actually dry in it:). Actually we have to prop the door open from time to time to let humidity out.
Recently I added a plant warmer mat to one of the shelves. Since the freezer is in an un-air-conditioned space the warmer mat keeps the freezer compartment nice and warm without adding too much heat.
I have heard that you can create a drying cabinet with a heater and humidity control and use it to rapidly dry pieces. They take the cabinet up to 200 degrees and 100% humidity then slowly lower the humidity so pieces dry from the inside out. Sounds like something that is hard to build.
