A slab of stoneware clay was enhanced with clay chalks before being made into this lidded coffer. After the bisque, I wax resist painted circles on the chalked surface, then glazed around the circles. Leather cords and ceramic tassels form the belted accent.

Clay chalks are something you can make then use like pastels on the bisqued clay surface or use sifted through a fine mesh sieve on to the greenware surface. By rubbing the chalk across the mesh, it is deposited on the greenware surface in a fine powder (wear a mask!) and can almost resemble airbrushing.
