What type of clay are you using? The higher the plasticity, the more prone to warping they become. Shrinkage rates will give you a good indication of plasticity levels.

Sharon Canfield, here is a good web page with 25 ways to prevent warping. As you will notice, there are multiple causes. Perhaps others will speak up with their opinions as to which are the most problematic.

I am having trouble with my trays for my butter dish warping.  Would you have any tips on what I might be doing wrong?

Hi Linda, I bought the 25# dry, mixed it up and added brushing medium to it. I brushed on about 3 coats. I fired with a slow cool down, like in Mastering cone 6 glazes. This helps get the red color from the iron. I've noticed it's a little lighter on lighter clay bodies--this one above is Klamath red from Seatlle Pottery. Let me know how it goes. Also, this tends to run, so be careful to have it thinner near the bottom, and don't overfire
