Hello Tom

Yes it's true! snakes are still kind next to all those, but unfortunately it doesn' t remove the fear of snakes by me.
It is very kind of you to propose your help, I have to tell you that my oven has no ventilator of cooling, but it is full well isolated, it is an eco 60 nabertherm . I follow often the work of Kate Malone , her pieces are beautiful a little to big according me but well finished. I suppose that many tries  are going to be necessary before obtaining a good result.   Can cristal glazes  be also applied to the stoneware clay  or earthenware? I never have to work with the china clay , I wait to receive my wheel to buy  it,  because I think that china clay should be worked only on the wheel is it true?

Hi Josi:

When you get ready to start doing crystalline, I will send you some info to get you started. There are several recipes that work well at 1220C. Limoge porcelain has several bodies used by some potters in the UK: Derek Clarkson, Kate Malone, and Peter Issley. Peter Frolich is Austria also uses Limoge porcelain if I recall correctly. Potclays in the UK also makes a crystalline friendly porcelain as well.

It is not the snakes in the wold you have to be concerned about: it is the snakes that run over people in trucks, shoot innocent people in night clubs: that you have to worry about.

Hello! Tom, thank you for your appreciation about my lamps, at the moment I have to do one with a head of cobra, it is really a sculpture, I don't know if I'm going to arrive to make this. I have already made caricatures of French actor,( I shall put them one day on the site), I look at many photos of cobras, but I don't have the courage to begin, and I have the phobia of snakes. I would want to begin with crystals glazes but I don't feel still ready, because they are particular firing and furthermore it's necessary to put a shard under the piece so that she doesn't stick and since my oven is quite new, I am afraid to damaging it.I read on crystals glazes a lot, I know that I am going to try them and certainly that this day I'll appeal to you.
I think that it's better to work on the china clay to have good results!
I don't have my wheel unfortunately, but next month I think that I am going to buy it.

Josi:

I think I can come up with a firing schedule that can be done in five segments, if you start with bisq pieces. Can also help you with formulation, if you decided to try them later.  Enjoyed your gallery.

Hello Tom,
I am happy to make the direct knowledge of a ceramist who produces crystals glazes.
Thank you for your comment.
It has been a long time since I follow the ceramists who make crystals glazes and I try to understand the mechanism.
Excuse my bad English, I hope that you understand what I want to say.
I bought an oven recently, by hoping to realize a day crystals glazes with but I did not immediately pay attention among segments.
I know that for a firing of this kind, I needs many bearings and rise T °, what I do not have unfortunately, I have only 5 segments. Then I thought of making successive firing so I can arrange several programs Which are linked one after the other and so to have more segments.
I fire in oxidation (electric oven) which can rise until 1300 °.
I have some recipes which I am going to try, but at the moment I make tests of matt glazes.
I went to see your pieces, your glazes are beautiful, do you go to make vertical pieces with?
It is glaze which flow.
On pinterest we can see many pieces realized with crystals glazes .
Here in France, we have sites which give many explanations to glazes, we have: SMART 2000 which is very well, naturally it is in French but some passages are translate into English
I wish you a beautiful day.

Josi:

I like what you are doing here: creative and practical application of clay art. Lights, including pendants have been on my list to develop for some time. I fire primarily crystalline glaze; which I have always thought would make for a great lamp base. Have you tried highly translucent porcelain bodies, and allowing the light to shine through it? Will be in touch with you shortly; you have my interest.
