Another idea to achieve the same effects seen on Ron Mello's vases, is trying an red iron red glaze perhaps the Recipe #451 from the Cooper book, or an an iron oxide engobe, with the # 200 or # 247 layered over it. Perhaps adding an extra opacifying in the covering glaze (to make it dryer or more mature ?)

Hello Norm Stuart, I also think the three color green, beige and red glaze is one glaze applied over another - a variation from the Emmanuel Cooper book, Recipe #200 on page 102.

Half of the Line-Blend tile has a white glaze which becomes more red.

A new test occurs to me, using the reverse, ir a white tin glaze with the glaze from Cooper Recipe #200 glaze layered over it.

I've seen a few pieces where the potter Ron Mello has used used two color glazes very effectively.

This is the link to the Cooper glazes in PDF format.

I'd like try to find or develop the recipe, which I'll try firing in reduction in a gas kiln.

#200 Transparent Semi-Gloss Glaze  (Barnice Transparente Semipétreo)

60 Nepheline Syenite - (Sienita Nefelina)

10 Ferro Frit 3134 - (Frita de Bórax Standard Ferro 3134)

25 Calcium Carbonate - (Blanco de España)

5 Ball Clay - (Arcilla del Bollas)

Variation - Fires to a mottled green in oxidation and a mottled red-green in reduction.

1.5% Copper Oxide

I suspect this is one glaze layered over another.
.
