The common practice for slump molds is to leave the slab in the mold until it can be removed without warping, which would typically be about leather hard. With this style mold you can place a ware board on top of the molded slab and mold, then flip the whole works upside down, and remove the mold. This can be done at the softer side of leather hard, allowing you to do some refining of the bottom edge  around the rim. At full leather hardness you can add feet without the danger of deforming the bottom.

On this piece I chose to leave about 1 inch of horizontal rim, so I measured and trimmed it along the upper surface of the adjustable slab mold, and the rounded over the square cut edge. The feet were cut and bent to right angles from the trimmings.

Watching the video again I notice that he lifts the lip of the pieces and puts what looks like a small wooden dowel between the clay and the mold. He lets the piece dry to leather hard in the mold. Looks promising but I can't decide if I'd use it that much but it sure looks like a great idea especially changing from squares to different types of rectangles. I may have to try it!

Yes, I have used the rectangular version and I really liked it. I got one of my own from the Ceramic Shop a couple of weeks ago. Haven't gotten it dirty yet.

"The Ceramic Shop" just quoted me 'about $12' for shipping to my zip in west Florida, which is better than the flat $20 based on cost of items from the bamboo tools site.

George, have you used this tool? I'm thinking of buying one. Here's a link to another source that looks a little cheaper but I don't know what the shipping charges would be.

Kathy, this item seems to include some specialized hardware. I wish I knew what it was because I'd rather build one myself but am not aware of a source for it.

Never mind. I found the link for buying them on Ceramic Arts Daily. It's http://www.bambootools.com/moulds/Mould.htm

Do you need to buy the adjustable molds, or are there directions for building them somewhere?
