Profile Information

What is your experience with ceramics in general. (Long answer encouraged)
I am a new potter who found pottery when I was diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer as a non smoker in late 2014. I volunteered as a quest at a studio in Austin Texas and was able to learn sitting next to the other artists. I had never taken a class, but decided to move to California to be closer to my parents that needed assistance and gave up my corporate career and opened a studio this year in downtown Benicia California. Yes, crazy - but WOW - it is all happening!!!! I am in remission and teaching classes almost every day, we are sold out and my students are making amazing progress and are addicted. I built all my tables and many tools and did most of the construction within the building including the plumbing of my home made clay sink/sump and more.
What is your current involvement with electric fired ceramics? (long answer encouraged)
I bought a bailey high fire kiln about 10cf and upgraded it to the genesis controller. I installed a vent system and sent it out the roof to the existing water heater vent - building was built in the 1800's. I also have a smaller Cress kiln with a kiln setter that is also vented. I am using AMACO glazes but the cost is painful and trying to research a good set of studio glazes that I can make at my house 107 steps away (regulations) and there are SO MANY things I need to learn but I also have so much I can share to date.
All our content is viewable by the public. Why do you want to be a member, when you can already see everything as a non-member?
Very good question.......I did not realize that but....I do want to be part of this community and hope that I can also make some direct contacts to members as well. I also am willing to share and interact and I do not think that the public is allowed to participate so that probably the biggest reason.
Where do you work on your ceramics projects?
commercial studio
