Profile Information

What is your experience with ceramics in general. (Long answer encouraged)
In have been working with clay for about 25 years. I first got acquainted with ceramics in college and was hooked. I am a hand builder primarily and have my own studio. I mix my own glazes and experiment with them. I also fire with wood and reduction at other studios. I have an electric kiln and I am continually looking for new recipes and working with these some to satisfaction and others need more experimenting. I belong to ceramics daily which is a great encouragement for new ideas or augmenting others.
What is your current involvement with electric fired ceramics? (long answer encouraged)
I primarily fire cone 5&6. I am going to try Some cone 10 glazes in the electric firing as an experiment. I also do saw dust firings with terra sigillata which also gives one an exciting twist. Barrel firings have been accomplished as well. I believe the shape of the piece dictates the method of finishing. However, I also take into consideration the clay I am using in order to decide the outcome.
All our content is viewable by the public. Why do you want to be a member, when you can already see everything as a non-member?
Being a members allows interaction with others and viewing new and inspiring ideas. I have always believed that educating oneself through viewing the works of others gives one an extra mile. However, pieces that I have accomplished with my ideas offer answers for others who may be working with new clay or glazes and want to see the outcomes of experimental glazing. One always learns through questions and answers. Ceramicists can never let go of the feeling clay exists for them. The touch; the feeling is so sensuous and satisfying.
