Profile Information

What is your experience with ceramics in general. (Long answer encouraged)
Into clay since 1980, studied with Ruth Rippon ant CSU Sacramento, taught at UC Davis Crafts Center, taught at OPAS in Olympia, WA. Started with ^10 reduction and did hundreds of gas firings between the two places I have taught. Set up a studio at home with an electric kiln and have been doing ^6 electric ever since. Have been selling at the Olympia Farmers Market for about 20 years.
What is your current involvement with electric fired ceramics? (long answer encouraged)
Use Navajo Wheel clay from IMCO, a smooth, dark ^6 red. Work is fairly standard functional but decorative enough to use just for that. I used 4 glazes, two dry pre-premixed from a supplier, two mixed up from recipes, one is a base recipe from the book, Mastering ^6 Glazes by Hesselberth and Roy. Three used decorative techniques include incising covered by glaze, stamping with engobe laid into the depressions, and reverting back to the old 1960's dipping methods with overlapping glazes.
All our content is viewable by the public. Why do you want to be a member, when you can already see everything as a non-member?
Attracted because it is specifically for ^6 glazes, a chance to focus in more depth, exchange ideas with others of the same ilk. Want to have chance to answer and ask questions. Want to get to know a few people personally. Always willing to help with questions I have an answer or viewpoint on. Would like to share a few photos.
