What is your experience with ceramics in general. (Long answer encouraged)
Ceramics student. Started in the fall of 2016, never touched clay before and caught the clay bug really quickly. After two John Britt glaze workshops, one Glaze Calculation class and one Farraday Newsome Majolica workshop I also caught the glaze bug. Began spending 12 hours at the college studio since 2016 and still do, then go home and research, read out of print books and new ones, ask questions on forums and pages and never looked back. Now people ask me if I live at the studio and I do consider it my home away from home. I’m in love with ceramics and love sharing what I’ve learned. My instructor says in my first year I’ve tried what it takes most people 10 years to try. In glaze calculation we were required 2 triaxials and 2 quads but I went nuts and did 6 triaxials and 8 Curre quadraxials and tested over 36 from those both at cone 6Ox and 10R and tested at least another 20 other collected recipes. I’m currently applying the information gathered in Glaze Cal and working backwards by creating pots with features (tesxture, slip, etc) that will showcase the glazes rather than seeing them as an after thought. Still trying to find my voice but enjoying the process because I can’t get enough of it! Thank you for having me, looking forward to getting to know you guys!
What is your current involvement with electric fired ceramics? (long answer encouraged)
Been doing it since my first semester in 2016. Have success in using SiC to get local Reduction for reds. Have also had success using oxides in small amounts on top of using stains as the main colorant in order to get a reduced look in oxidation.
