It is a numbers game I suppose. It took 80 years to get through the glaze on your 1920's tile. In 25 years (or less) I will be dead, I am 60 now. I do however print my invoices with: "do not use strong chemical cleaners". Actually tell customers to use soft scrub to clean. Typically tile has 0.15 grams of glaze per square inch, compared to 0.65 grams per square inch: another factor.

I wonder how much hard scrubbing a devitrified glaze like that could withstand.

Over the years our housekeeper has actually been able to wear through the glaze in spots on some tiles from the 1920s.
