According to the chemistry, spodumene has only 20% of the ceramic-flux, lithium oxide, contained in lithium carbonate. The extra material is the equivalent of kaolin and silica, so these two ingredients in the recipe should be reduced to keep the chemistry identical.

But in this recipe "Weathered Bronze Green" the glaze I made using spodumene looks only slightly different than a glaze made with the same weight of lithium carbonate or lithium fluoride.

Chemistry of / Componentes químicos de:

Spodumene

Lithium Carbonate

Kaolin / Caolin

I will definitely look into those options! Thank you Juli!

I guess we could replace the barium with strontium carbonate or whiting on a  molar weight in glaze cal. and reformulate.  I'm not savvy with it though.

The folk art guild got a lot of ooooooohhs from my clients. I like the way it breaks. I love the looks of the Buckwheat, but the barium content is a concern. If it was my studio, I would make a batch in a heartbeat.

Good to see you got some tested.  i plan to do some when it warms up here. The folk art guild looks pretty promising to me (had that one in mind).
