Potters & Sculptors - Making Rock from Mud
Ok Newbie time...
I've never mixed my own glazes or anything, I haven't fired anything yet, but I am going to soon.
I bought around 5 different commercial glaze powders. I was just wondering if there is any danger in mixing them together and experimenting?
Glaze is not like paint. Mixing them will most likely lead to failure and not make beautiful glaze. What many ceramic artists do is layer glazes over one another either by spraying or dipping or painting on the layers. The book that is the easiest to understand to learn to make glaze is Mastering Cone 6 glazes, it is very easy to understand. The book has glaze formulae that work. I would suggest that you find a local teacher to help you. You can spend a fortune learning otherwise, trial and error is expensive.
